Faces need to be big enough to see
A studio portrait colours best. For a child in a bigger group, a sharp scan helps more than anything else.
White stays white
Christening gowns, bonnets and white frocks stay white, and the colour goes into faces, hair, toys and backgrounds.
The colours are a best estimate
No one can know the real colour of a ribbon or a coat from a black-and-white photo. The model picks natural, believable colours.

A photo of a parent or grandparent as a child is often the one people want to see in colour first.

Good to know.
Can you colour an old baby photo?
Yes. Baby and christening portraits colour well, as long as the face is clear. The preview is free, so you can see how it comes out first.
How accurate are the colours?
The colours are the model's best estimate, not a record of the real ones. Skin, hair, fabric and backgrounds usually look natural, but a uniform's facings or a dress's exact shade can't be known from a black-and-white photo.
How much does it cost?
Previews are free: one straight away, and up to three if you add your email. Keeping one photo costs £9, five photos cost £19 and twenty-five cost £49, paid once, with VAT included.
