What to expect.
Take it out of the album if you can
Plastic sleeves and glass cause glare. Photograph the print on its own, straight on, in daylight.
Sepia is fine
The model reads the light and dark in the photo, not the brown tint, and replaces the tint with natural colour.
Faded prints come out softer
Colouring doesn't restore detail that has faded away. The clearer the print, the better the result.

Very faded prints come out softer, like this one. A sharper print comes out closer to the portrait above.

Good to know.
What is a carte de visite?
A small portrait photo mounted on card, about the size of a visiting card, popular from the 1860s. Cabinet cards are the larger version that followed.
Can you colour a sepia photo?
Yes. The brown tint of an old print is replaced with natural colour, so there's no need to convert it to black and white first.
How much does it cost?
Previews are free: one straight away, and up to three if you add your email. Keeping one photo costs £9, five photos cost £19 and twenty-five cost £49, paid once, with VAT included.
What happens to my photos?
They're deleted automatically after 7 days. They're used only to colour your photo, and we never share them.
